The map shows audio/video releases by country focus over time from core Islamic State (IS) and all of its wilayats using the IS name since 29 Jun. 2014 when IS announced its latest iteration. The map clearly illustrates the global expansion of the Islamic State (IS) since its creation in both physical presence and message focus.

Methodology Note:
Audio and video releases from the Islamic State (IS) and its named wilayats are assigned a Primary Country which is represented on this map. This is determined by first looking at who the message of the video is focused on or to. If there is not a clear audience or country focus it then goes to the physical location of where the video was shot. If the first two are not clear it defaults to the third which is based on the main country the Islamic State wilayat that produced the video is based out of. All of the videos represented on the map are available in full in the Video Component of the IntelCenter Database (ICD).
