Since formally announcing its weaponized drone program on 24 Jan. 2017, the Islamic State (IS) has gone from never before releasing videos or photos showing weaponized drone attacks to releasing five videos and 135 photos in 30 days. The animated map shows both weaponized drone bombing attacks and drones rigged to explode when found or as IS calls them "explosive drones". The videos, photos and incident reports of attacks were compiled to map as accurately as possible the locations of attacks and the date they occurred. New attacks are added as they become identified.

Methodology Note:
When the actual date of the attack was not known, the date of the video or photo release covering the attack was used. The latitude and longitude for each attack were determined based on the best available information. If only a province or city were known, the center point was used. While this allows for some variations on time and exact location, the map is believed to be an accurate representation of the rapid increase of IS weaponized drone usage and the areas where that is occurring.
