A large percentage of the significant jumps in alert traffic in 2014 were a direct result of activity by the Islamic State (IS) and it supporters around the world. Yemen's first place position was largely due to the al-Huthis and al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Egypt are all expected to see elevated levels in 2015 as well as a continued rise across the US, Canada, UK, France, Australia and other Western countries under threat by IS, AQAP and their supporters. Levels in these countries are expected to climb beyond post 9-11 levels in 2015 as the threat is more diverse, persistent and complex than at any other time in terrorism's history.
A significant volume of FlashNet traffic for a particular country is typically an indicator of an increased threat in that country. IntelCenter's FlashNet alerts are sent out when a significant terrorist incident occurs or threat by terrorist or rebel group is made. Alerts are also sent out for developments which may result in an immediate increased threat, such as the arrest of key group members. Warnings by embassies and other government agencies of threats also trigger alerts.
FlashNet alerts are sent out 24/7 by email and SMS text message around the world. For more details or to get a free 10-day trial to FlashNet, click here.
