IntelCenter FlashNet Alert Volume by Country: Aug. 2014

FlashNet Alert Volume by Country
Aug. 2014

In Aug. 2014, IntelCenter issued 90 FlashNet alerts. The highest volume of traffic was from Iraq with 12 alerts due to the Islamic State's (IS) activity there. Second was tied between Israel, Libya and the US at eight. The US shot up to second due to threats from the IS and al-Qaeda and the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Syria and Afghanistan tied for third at seven. Fourth was tied between Yemen, Nigeria and the United Kingdom at six.

Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Egypt are all expected to see elevated levels going forward.

A significant volume of FlashNet traffic for a particular country is typically an indicator of an increased threat in that country. IntelCenter's FlashNet alerts are sent out when a significant terrorist incident occurs or threat by terrorist or rebel group is made. Alerts are also sent out for developments which may result in an immediate increased threat, such as the arrest of key group members. Warnings by embassies and other government agencies of threats also trigger alerts.
