FlashNet Alert Volume by Country

In Jul. 2014, IntelCenter issued 167 FlashNet alerts. The highest volume of traffic was from Libya with 36 alerts due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation there. Somalia came in second at 20. Nigeria and Israel tied for third at 18. Israel leaped to third in Jul. due to the ongoing conflict with HAMAS. Iraq fell to fourth at 13 largely due to a slowing in territorial gains by the Islamic State (IS). Kenya came in fifth at eight and Afghanistan in sixth at seven alerts.

Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Egypt, Israel and Ukraine are all expected to see elevated levels going forward.

A significant volume of FlashNet traffic for a particular country is typically an indicator of an increased threat in that country. IntelCenter's FlashNet alerts are sent out when a significant terrorist incident occurs or threat by terrorist or rebel group is made. Alerts are also sent out for developments which may result in an immediate increased threat, such as the arrest of key group members. Warnings by embassies and other government agencies of threats also trigger alerts.
