FlashNet Alert Volume by Country

In Nov. 2014, IntelCenter issued 74 FlashNet alerts. The highest volume of traffic was for Yemen with 11 alerts. Libya came in second with eight alerts and Nigeria in third with six. Kenya came in fourth with four alerts. Fifth was tied between Syria, Israel, France, Algeria and Afghanistan.

Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Egypt are all expected to see elevated levels going forward with increased traffic for Western countries impacted by the threats made by the Islamic State.

A significant volume of FlashNet traffic for a particular country is typically an indicator of an increased threat in that country. IntelCenter's FlashNet alerts are sent out when a significant terrorist incident occurs or threat by terrorist or rebel group is made. Alerts are also sent out for developments which may result in an immediate increased threat, such as the arrest of key group members. Warnings by embassies and other government agencies of threats also trigger alerts.
