In Oct. 2014, IntelCenter issued 74 FlashNet alerts. The highest volume of traffic was tied between Nigeria and the Philippines with seven alerts. Syria and Canada tied for second with six alerts. Canada's spike in activity is due to the jihadist inspired attacks that occurred there. Egypt came in third at four. Fourth was tied between the US, Lebanon, Iraq and Global at three.
Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Egypt are all expected to see elevated levels going forward with increased traffic for Western countries impacted by the threats made by the Islamic State.
A significant volume of FlashNet traffic for a particular country is typically an indicator of an increased threat in that country. IntelCenter's FlashNet alerts are sent out when a significant terrorist incident occurs or threat by terrorist or rebel group is made. Alerts are also sent out for developments which may result in an immediate increased threat, such as the arrest of key group members. Warnings by embassies and other government agencies of threats also trigger alerts.
FlashNet alerts are sent out 24/7 by email and SMS text message around the world. For more details or to get a free 10-day trial to FlashNet, click here.
