IntelCenter tracked 49 attacks in 2016 using IEDs attached to vehicles in the IntelCenter Database (ICD) as of 2 Dec. 2016. This excludes buses and when the purpose of the IED was to attack something other than the vehicle itself.
Iraq had the greatest number of attacks at 47% (23) with Afghanistan in a close second at 37% (18). Egypt and Somalia came in at 4% (2) with Yemen, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Russia tied at 2% (1).
Police Personnel were the most targeted group at 20% (10) followed by Government Employees at 16% (8). Government Officials, Educators, Political Figures and Paramilitary Personnel came in at 6% (3). Tribal Figure, Religious Figure, Rebels, Military Personnel, Medical Personnel, Journalists, Intelligence Personnel, High-Profile Individuals and Company Employees tied at 2% (1).
Saturday was the most common day for attacks at 20% (10) followed by Monday at 16% (8). The least common day was Friday at 10% (5).
A total of 37 people were killed. The average killed per attack was one. The highest number killed in an attack was three. A total of 53 people were injured. The average number of people injured was one. The highest number injured in an attack was eight.
