in 2016

The below list shows the Top 10 locations for terrorist and rebel incidents tracked by tracked by IntelCenter in the IntelCenter Database (ICD) Incident Component for 2016 as of 15 Dec. 2016.

During the period there were 10,305 incidents tracked by IntelCenter of which 5,195 had a classifiable location. City/Village/Town ranked second largely due to attacks by Islamic State (IS) and other groups in Syria and Iraq on entire cities, villages and towns. Rebel Position came in eighth largely due to fighting among rebel groups in Syria.

Methodology Note:
City/Village/Town reflects attacks where the entire location was under attack and not when a single attack occurs on a road inside of a city. Rebel Position reflects attacks by rebels on another rebel groups position. Incident Location reflects where the attack occurred which may or may not reflect the actual target of the attack. While IntelCenter makes every attempt to identify all incidents, the nature of reporting makes that nearly impossible. These numbers should be viewed as minimums with the total number likely higher where it could be expected to be so.
