The following charts show terrorist and rebel incidents using motorcycles as the primary mode of attack by country tracked by IntelCenter in the IntelCenter Database (ICD) Incident Component for 2014 as of 18 Feb. 2015.
In 2014 there were 212 terrorist and rebel incidents using motorcycles as the primary mode of attack in 19 countries. Motorcycle attacks counted involved smalls arms, grenades, incendiary devices and motorcycle VBIEDs.
The highest number of incidents occurred in Pakistan at 36%% (76). Yemen came in second at 19% (41). Afghanistan came in third at 18% (39). Egypt came in a distant fourth at 6% (13) with the Philippines and Colombia tied for fifth at 3% (7).
Numbers in 2015 are expected to be largely the same with likely increases in Egypt, Libya, Iraq and Kenya.
In total for the 212 incidents, 328 people were killed and 679 injured. On average two people were killed per incident and three injured. The highest number killed in any one incident was 31 and the lowest zero. The highest number injured in any one incident was 51 and the lowest zero.
Methodology Note:
Attacks using multiple motorcycles were counted as one incident. Attacks counted included smalls arms, grenades, incendiary devices and motorcycle VBIEDs. Large-scale attacks and others where the motorcycle attackers were not the primary effort, were not included. While IntelCenter makes every attempt to identify all incidents, the nature of reporting makes that nearly impossible. These numbers should be viewed as minimums with the total number likely higher where it could be expected to be so. The original source data for all incidents shown here is located in the IntelCenter Database (ICD) Incident Component.
The IntelCenter Database (ICD) allows users to easily create charts tracking tactics and targeting along with many other metrics related to terrorist and rebel groups. As of 18 Feb. 2015, the ICD has detailed records on more than 128,000 incidents. IntelCenter also provides analytical support services on terrorist and rebel tactics and targeting.
