There were a total of 2,492 incidents attributed to a specific terrorist or rebel group in 2014. A total of 9,476 people were killed and 3,777 injured in these incidents for an average killed per incident of four and an average injured of two.

Methodology Note:
Incidents not directly attributed to or claimed by a group are not counted. For example, while most attacks in a region may be believed to be executed by group X. They are only counted if the group actually claims the attack or other statements directly attribute the attack to group X. In some regions this often results in an underreporting of actual attacks done by that group. In addition, while IntelCenter makes every attempt to identify all incidents, the nature of reporting makes that nearly impossible. These numbers should be viewed as minimums with the total number likely higher where it could be expected to be so. The original source data for all incidents shown here is located in the Incident Component of the IntelCenter Database (ICD).

The IntelCenter Database (ICD) allows users to easily track threats, tactics and targeting along with many other metrics related to terrorist and rebel groups. As of 25 Jul. 2014, the ICD has more then 136,000 records on terrorist and rebel activity. IntelCenter also provides analytical support services.
