The chart shows the average number of people killed in terrorist and rebel incidents involving vehicular-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED) by country tracked by IntelCenter in the ICD Incident Component for 2014 as of 26 Jul. 2014.
As of 26 Jul. 2014, there have been 470 terrorist and rebel incidents involving VBIEDs in 2014. The highest average killed per incident was in Nigeria at 25. Syria came in a distant second at 10 with Somalia in third at seven. Afghanistan came in fourth at six. Pakistan and Egypt tied for fifth at five and Yemen and Iraq tied for sixth at four.
A total of 2,597 people were killed globally in the 470 incidents for a global average of six. The highest number of killed in any one attack was 120.
Methodology Note:
VBIED attacks involving multiple VBIEDs were counted as one incident. Some incidents involved multiple modes of attack. If a VBIED was involved, the total number killed regardless of the mode which resulted in their death was counted. While IntelCenter makes every attempt to identify all incidents, the nature of reporting makes that nearly impossible. These numbers should be viewed as minimums with the total number likely higher where it could be expected to be so. The original source data for all incidents shown here is located in the Incident Component of the IntelCenter Database (ICD).
The IntelCenter Database (ICD) allows users to easily track threats, tactics and targeting along with many other metrics related to terrorist and rebel groups. As of 26 Jul. 2014, the ICD has more then 136,000 records on terrorist and rebel activity. IntelCenter also provides analytical support services.
